The Art and Science of Seductive Interactions

HiMA's 2009 Interactive Strategies conference speaker Stephen Anderson is offering a 2 1/2 hour sneak preview of his 2010 workshop that delves deep into the strategy and tactical application of his oh-so popular IS Conference presentation, The Art and Science of Seductive Interactions.

In this WORKSHOP, Stephen will share specific examples of sites designed with serendipity, arousal, rewards and other seductive elements, especially during the post signup process when it is so easy to lose people. Examples include consumer applications such as Dopplr and iLike, where engaging with users through a process of playful discovery is vital to continued use. The workshop includes a  how these principles can work for a corporate website as well.

Through this process of reverse engineering, you will learn how these sites use principles from psychology, behavioral economics, game mechanics and social design to create better customer experiences (and create business wins by increasing conversion or lowering bounce rates). Using the Mental Notes card deck (more info here: www.getmentalnotes.com), you will start with a site that is perfectly "usable," and take it to the next level by exploring how things like feedback loops curiosity and social proof could make a site more seductive.

Key Takeaways

  • Breakout sessions where you will learn principles from psychology that can be applied to your website.
  • Explore creative ways to apply (and not apply!) these principles
  • Tactical examples of how to apply these ideas in a corporate environment

WHO Should Attend this Workshop?

  • Designers, Product Owners, Site Managers, Marketers, IT, anyone responsible for the success of a Web site or Web application*

* Attendees will receive a free 7-card packet of Stephen's Mental Notes card deck!
